Shiatsu (from shi -meaning finger- and atsu -meaning pressure-) is the Japanese massage based on accupuncture and is effective in healing and mentaining physical health.
Shiatsu is regulated as a licensed medical therapy in Japan by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and elsewhere by various governing bodies set up by Shiatsu practitioners.
Tuina is the hands-on-body treatment using acupressure that is a modality of Chinese medicine whose purpose is to bring the body into balance.
Thai traditional massage has two main styles: Rachasamnak massage, or royal tradition, and Chaloisak massage, or rural tradition
Rachasamnak: the oldest medical institute of the world is in the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, or in Thai; the Wat Po in Bangkok, Thailand. This institute that is now called: "Watpo & Chetawan TTM school" organizes one week trainings, after which they award an internationally recognized certificate.
The basic training that everyone has to attend is called Traditional Thai massage. Later on you can attend Aromatherapy massage (Oil massage), reflexology (foot massage), children massage and as last one: the advanced Thai medical massage.
Of course, the first week you will have to memorize a lot of movements (about 100 for the Thai Traditional massage). When you have obtained your certificate it is not the end, rather just the beginning because as with everything, you need a lot of experience to become a good massage therapist.
This massage is good for preventing illnesses. Aromatherapy massage is more for wellness purpose.
Each training set costs around 8,000 THB (indic. 2009).
To learn the Chaloisak massage , sometimes compared with Zen Shiatsu, as it comes from the heart, you better go to Chiangmai ( Thailand ) with Master Pichest Boonthumme 3/3 M5 T.Bahn Vehn Hang Dong 50230. http://www.pichestthaimassage.com/
